A new project

I have a new little project... I found this cane thing on the side of the road and rescued it as I love anything cane or bamboo at the moment. I think it is a coffee table and must have had a glass top at some stage but I have decided to turn it into a seat! Is that crazy?? I am going to sand all the varnish off (which I started doing yesterday and it will definitely keep me out of mischief for a while), and will either paint it or varnish it again. I am going to nail a board to the top where the glass was so it is a bit stronger and then make this cute sprocket pillow to go on top... hope it looks ok, will keep me occupied anyway. I need to get some heavy duty sand paper as that varnish is pretty stubborn.

This weekend...

...I had a little bit of luck in the op-shops... I found these beautiful etched wine glasses for the lovely Megan who just moved into a new house. I love etched glassware!

...I found this cute little pot with a pear on it and a cork for a lid!

...I found a lovely new tie for my tie collection...

...The weather was beautiful so we went to the beach at Brighton for a little bit, and got fish and chips and milkshakes...

...I made a polenta and orange syrup cake... it was only about an inch high but it tasted pretty good...

...I bought some lovely Cherry Blossom from the Prahran Market and ended up putting it on the floor in the hallway...

Poppies

There is nothing nicer than watching a bunch of Poppies open up I think... it's crazy how all that pretty petal is scrunched up inside that funny looking green pod! How does Mother Nature know how to do that... amazing :)

Yesterday's treasures

A little trip to the op-shop not far from my house yesterday, turned up these treasures... an old preserving jar that I am going to give to my friend (if I can part with it!), this pretty lightshade, which is plastic but will hopefully look like glass when it is hanging up, and this cute bag. Every time I find handbag I like, I have visions of using it but most likely it will end up hanging somewhere as a decoration or living in a box on top of my wardrobe...

Diana Mini

I have had a poor forgotten roll of film rolling around in the glove compartment of the car for months now and finally got around to getting it developed... it is the third roll of film I have taken on my Diana Mini and I was hoping that this one would be a bit more successful than the last but sadly not! I love that little camera but I just can't seem to get the hang of it... I must have very shaky hands I think. Here are a few of the pics...

Moo

Yesterday we got our new rug... a 1970's cow hide! We bought it off Alena as she is moving to a new apartment and has no use for it any more. I have wanted one of these since I was little and this one is beautiful, it is in lovely condition for its age. Here it is hanging out in the sun for a bit yesterday :)

I have been wanting to find a new pretty piece of jewellery for a while now as I haven't had anything new for ages! Last week I found these two gorgeous crochet necklaces at a little pop up craft sale on Swanston Street. Aren't they lovely... they are made a by a clever Melbourne designer and crafty lady called Shara Lambeth. I think the silver one will be my special going out necklace ;)

Londontown

Ever since I have left London, I have been quite Londonsick... I love Melbourne but have been dying to go back to that amazing city. I just can't believe that a bunch of losers are smashing and burning that beautiful place. Hang in there London, we still love you.

Wednesday 3 August 2011

I haven't had any luck in the op shops for ages now but today I did find this cute little coathanger for $1! It looks quite old and I'm not sure what it is meant to be used for as it is pretty little. You pull back the hook part to open up the wooden bits... cute! It is just the size to hang a piece of Great Grandma's crochet...
